YEAR 2018 AND PROJECT DIAL
This is the last month of 2018 and we can all look back at this year and say that this was a very busy year for DIAL project. The project’s team organized second partner’s meeting in Cyprus, made plans for the upcoming year and actively spread out information about the project and its aims.
From 14th to 16th of February, all partners came together in Cyprus in order to plan out further actions of the project. It was the start of one of the most important intellectual output developments of the project – the creation of teaching material about basic computer skills and concepts for the seniors. All partners developed the material which consists of four modules: Internet, Hardware, Communication & Collaboration online and Computer essentials. By the end of 2018, all four modules have been developed and are being prepared to be put together, redacted and arranged for translation purposes. It is planned to use the material in the next transnational partner meeting, which will be also the first training of the project.
This was also a very public year for DIAL. The project was promoted in the PBA meeting in UK with partners from Bulgaria, UK, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Romania, Finland, Hungary, Poland, Greece, Spain and Italy (37 people in total). DIAL was talked about also in TC in Berlin Germany with 30 participants from Palestine, Slovakia, Latvia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Egypt, Bulgaria, and Poland.
System&Generation organized Project writing Training courses in their office and in Gazi University – Ankara with 40 people in total. DIAL project was promoted during TC in Bitola Macedonia with 28 participants. The project was discussed even on Portuguese radio (you can hear about it by going to RUTIS homepage- http://rutis.keyweb.pt/paginas/15).
The project was also promoted in various Conferences and events organized and/or attended by RUTIS, including one of the biggest attended Third Age Universities’ National Meeting organized in Nazare, where more than 2000 participants heard about the DIAL project and its aims. Also the Meeting was covered by 2 national (BTV and CMTV).
Emphasys Centre was present at the Etiquette Week for Elderly People organized by the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee on 5-9 November 2018. The National Bioethics Committee of Cyprus (EKBK), in cooperation with more than 30 private and public sector organizations, including the Ministry of Health and the Pancyprian Medical Association, organized a Week of Awareness on Third Age Issues. Specifically, the European Program DIAL was presented to senior citizens, as well as adult educators. Seniors were pleased and happy with the prospect of attending IT training with their grandchildren and being able to communicate on line with them.
There was also an important radio interview by S&G in Turkey with NTV radio (you can read more about this on S&G homepage http://www.systemandgeneration.com/en/projects/dial/p2_articleid/252).
These are just some of the public mentions of the DIAL project, if you are interested to hear more about DIAL, check project’s partner homepages for more dissemination info. We are looking forward to the Year 2019 and DIAL team is ready for our plans and challenges ahead.

PROJECT “DIAL” CREATES AN OFFICIAL LOGO AND WORKS ON IO1
DEVELOPMENT
The ERASMUS+ strategic partnership project’s “DIAL” team has chosen the official logo of the project and is currently working on development of first intellectual output – a senior survey about their digital skills.
As the project started, the project’s team had a discussion on the project’s official logo. The very first logo drafts were created and discussed already during the Riga kick-off meeting in October, 2017. There were seventeen potential logos that were created by Latvian graphic designer, Annija Goldberga, who had collaborated with Latvian NGO “Project Net” in various projects prior to that.
After the kick-off meeting, all partners had to decide on the final version of the logo by voting, and the absolute majority gave their votes for the logo with network-related theme in its graphics. “It reminds of digital world and at the same time it is a symbol of connections, as this project aims to create more opportunities to seniors, who cannot be virtually in touch with their friends and families due to their lack of digital skills. This logo reflects the core idea of this project,” comments the board member of NGO “Project Net” Iveta Cirule. As for the color, it matches with the one that is used in the official “DIAL” homepage (www.dialproject.eu) – turquoise blue.
Simultaneously to the process of deciding about the official logo, all partners have actively started their work on a survey development. This survey will be filled in by seniors from Cyprus, Turkey, Portugal and Latvia and it will help the project partners to determine, which digital skills are lacked by the respondents in order to develop a more precise learning platform on Moodle. The very first survey data will be carried out already in the beginning of 2018, before the next partner meeting in Cyprus, which will take place between February 15 and 17, 2018.

THE ERASMUS+ STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP PROJECT “DIAL”
TEAM COLLECTS DATA ABOUT SENIOR DIGITAL SKILLS
Currently, “DIAL” team is actively working on data collection about senior digital skills in all four partner countries – Turkey, Latvia, Portugal and Cyprus. The work is done by handing out surveys that have been created by project’s team and contains four main skill blocks: computer essential, hardware, communication&collaboration and last but not least – internet skills.
The main aim of the survey is to create simple, concise and at the same time an informative educational material for all interested volunteers (i.e. grandchildren, children, friends and colleagues of the particular seniors) that are willing to teach seniors the digital skills that they lack.
The survey contains various questions about basic digital skills. Everyone who is older than 55 years of age is welcomed to become our respondent and fill in the survey online by following the link http://survey.dialproject.net/ (or maybe you can help your parents or grandparents fill in this questionnaire, so we could understand what digital skills they are lacking). The survey results will serve as an authentic material and basis for the development of all other intellectual outputs that are planned to be brought out during the project.
It is planned to collect data and process the results by February 10, 2018.
